Great Black Backed Gull
An absolutely enormous bird - the largest gull - it is a treat to see a GBB even on mainland coasts. As their scientific name, Larus marinus suggests, they are very much a marine gull. They are easy to spot even in isolation by their jet black back and flesh coloured legs. Next to other large seaside gulls, such as herring and lesser black back, they are unmistakably larger still.
