Mallard drake in moult

Description

A closeup showing a mallard drake in moult. After breeding season, the bottle green plumage on the head and brown breast is moulted to reveal a plumage almost identical to the females. After breeding season is over, the males no longer need to attract a mate and their new disguise allows them to hide easier on shores and amongst undergrowth while they are flightless.
