Black Headed Gull

Description

One of, if not the most commonly seen gulls inland in the UK, the Black Headed is just about everywhere, especially in urban areas. Their heads are actually dark brown, which they moult for part of the year. A small gull, smaller than mallard, they were until recently classified as a Larus, but now have their own scientific name - Chroicocephalus ridibundus
